Our diverse, multi-disciplinary culture helps us innovate across product and organization types. We are a consulting firm specializing in user-centered product design. As a team, Visde has extensive experience in interface design, information architecture, user research, package and industrial design, mobile applications, and a variety of other areas.

Rachel Powers

President and Founder for user-centered product design and strategy firm in Chicago for software, applications and other technologies. Visde has an extensive client and project list, including HSBC, Beltone, Alcatel Lucent, Houghton-Mifflin, Campbell’s and many others. Previous clients + work include Apple Computer, Microsoft, Macromedia, Yahoo!, Intel, Andersen. Visde’s Principal, Rachel Powers, has over 15 years of experience in the industry designing engaging products. In addition, she is an Adjunct Professor at the Institute of Design and Northwestern University where she teaches graduate-level product design + innovation courses.

Marlena Deren

Marlena is a user experience designer, creating visual designs and interactions. She has a BFA in Video/Animation and currently working on MS in Human Computer Interaction. She has worked on commercial and custom software, large scale e-commerce sites, as well as traditional graphic design and apparel.


Favorite Stuff: Southpark, old Simpsons episodes, low budget films and videos, ice cream, and Ray Caesar's work.

Wayland Chow

Wayland specializes in industrial design. Having graduated from the University of Illinois – Urbana Champaign with a BFA in Industrial Design, he has spent the last several years working in both product and exhibit design industries. As an exhibit designer, he has worked with clients in both the consumer and manufacturing markets to create innovative exhibit trade show properties for shows such as the Home and Housewares Show and the Consumer Electronics Show. As a product designer, he has developed designs for business and medical industries.


Favorite Stuff: Chicago-style food (i.e. pizza, hot dogs, etc.) and authentic Chinese cuisine, Wikipedia, Gizmodo , Early 90’s hip-hop.

Matt Theakston

Matt specializes in user-centred (sic) interaction design across all product platforms, whether web, software applications, mobile, product, or all of the above.

Matt holds a Masters degree in Human-Computer Interaction from DePaul University in Chicago, as well as a bachelors degree in History Honours from the University of Manchester UK.

Tatiana Grubisich

Tatiana holds a degree in Theatre from Butler University, focusing in design and special effects makeup. She worked for several years doing FX makeup for film and fashion before joining the Visde Team. Outside of her work at Visde, she continues to work in theatrical design.


Favorite Stuff: Grandma’s lasagna, cupcakes, orchids, and Lifetime movies, imdb and flickr.

Kay Burnett

Kay has a background in design, technology and business and works to integrate the critical factors of each into product and service design. She has experience designing and conducting research to support product development, creating strategic level models and diagrams to illustrate product directions and evaluating long and short term solutions to product dilemmas.

She has practiced for more than 20 years in industries ranging from financial services to energy production and from industrial manufacturing to information technology. She currently practices in the multi-disciplinary role of strategic design for innovation. In this role she helps clients find opportunities to create business value and customer understanding using human-centered design methods that bridge the gap between human needs and technological innovation in products, services and communications.


Favorite Stuff: Sushi and green tea ice cream, and netflix.

Elizabeth Moller

Elizabeth specializes in information architecture and interaction design. She has designed a variety of interfaces, including Hypercard based help systems, flat file databases, Macintosh System Software, TV set top boxes, web applications, websites, and desktop accounting software. Recent clients include Intuit, Yahoo!, and Verisign. She holds several patents for interaction methods, including original drag & drop designs for Macintosh system software.

Elizabeth holds both a BS and MS in Product Design from Stanford University. She is also a glass bead artist, creating beads that are used in her own jewelry designs.


Favorite Stuff: Milk Chocolate & Coffee, and websudoku.

Christopher Philip

Chris has over 11 years of experience in the software, Internet and mobile industries. His work includes content and product management for eBay, Motorola, Lucent, IMPAC Medical Systems, and many others. He has extensive experience in usability, operations, design and product management Chris holds an M.A. from Notre Dame de Namur University in communication psychology and a B.F.A. in Visual Communication from Ohio University.


Favorite Stuff: Border Collies, Coffee, hiking, biking, photography, fine dining.
