Project Background

GN ReSound group, one of the largest manufacturers of hearing instruments in the world, approached us to help redesign the current software used by audiologists' across the globe. The need for change has been brought on by many factors, including changing the platforms from C++ to C# and WPF for feature and branding flexibility, a new line of hearing instruments, as well as the poor heuristics of their existing application.

The overall redesign captured three different brands from the same family. During our first phase however, we developed ideas for the overall platform that would support all brands and their product families.

Research + Ideation

We conducted research with on-site visits at the audiologists' offices to get a better understanding about their environment, process, interaction with the hearing impaired. We documented pain points about the software, hardware, and other elements that affected how they fitted the patient with the hearing instrument.

Using existing user and business requirements, our research, and other materials, the information architecture has started to take shape during this ideation phase, concurrently with the visual design. We then created a brand-neutral prototype and conducted user research (ethnographic research + usability testing) with audiologists across United States and Europe.

With extensive and extremely valuable feedback from the actual users, we were ready to move into the second phase of the project, which concentrated on SimpleFit for Interton. In addition to the results, we researched the brand as a whole and all of the aspects of the user experience. This included, the software itself, the hardware, packaging, website, and printed materials. Our team has implemented changes to the designs tailored for Costco and Hans Anders hearing instrument dispenser, and took it out again to test it in United States and Europe.

After the tests, additional adjustments were made based on the usability study. Finally, we implemented input from the business stakeholders and our ideation phase for SimpleFit was completed, leaving a strong, user - centered design based on our exhaustive holistic method and collaborative approach.
